What is a KioMedine treatment?
KioMedine is a new and unique method for symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis in the knee joint. It is based on KioMedine carboxymethyl chitosan with no animal origin.
As an extract of mushrooms, chitosan is a polysaccharide of natural origin, which is further modified into a chemical structure with unique properties.
Thanks to the unique structure of carboxymethyl (CM) chitosan, which is different from hyaluronic acid, KioMedine has an exclusive dual action to combat pain and other symptoms of osteoarthritis by improving lubrication, in addition to reducing the protection of oxidative stress (aging) of joints.
When are you eligible for KioMedine treatment?
When Hyaluronic Acid and/or PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) do not achieve the desired effect in the following cases:
- Patellofemoral chrondropathy
- Severe tri-compartmental osteoarthritis
- Patients with knee osteoarthritis and a BMI greater than 30

How long can you benefit from treatment?
The duration of the effect depends greatly on:
- The degree of stress on the joint. The effect on the joint will work out faster when underloaded or overloaded.
- Your lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle has a positive effect on the duration of treatment.
- The severity of the degree of damage.
The effect of the treatment is usually only noticeable after 2 weeks in the form of less pain and improved function of the joint. After 6 months, the effect of the treatment wears off. Because of this, we recommend repeating the treatment after 6 months.
