Corticosteroids can cause the following, short-term, side effects: increased sugar levels, increased blood pressure, red face, headaches, hot flashes, menstrual disorders and decreased reliability of contraception.

What are the side effects of PRP treatment for osteoarthritis?

Possible side effects of PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatment for osteoarthritis are generally mild and temporary in nature. They may include:

  • Temporary pain, swelling or tenderness at the injection site.
  • Possible infection at the injection site, although this is rare.

It is important to discuss any side effects with our specialists and to mention any allergies or underlying health problems before starting treatment.

What is ultrasound-guided treatment?

Ultrasound-guided injection is a medical procedure in which an injection is administered using ultrasound. This means that during the procedure, an ultrasound device is used to obtain real-time images of the problem area, allowing us to perform the treatment much more accurately. The use of ultrasound during our injection procedures contributes to a targeted and effective approach. This is especially important when treating various conditions, such as osteoarthritis, calcifications and inflammation. In addition, it minimizes potential complications. We perform all of our treatments ultrasound-guided or under screening.

Can I keep taking my blood thinners after my treatment?

Consult with the anesthesiologist. This is different for each treatment.

Can I continue to take my pain medication before and after my PRP treatment?

1 week before your PRP treatment, and at least two weeks after your PRP treatment, you should not take NSAIDs. Rather, we prefer that you do not use NSAIDs again until 6 weeks after treatment.

NSAID stands for nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Examples of NSAIDs include ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen and diclofenac. These are a class of drugs used to reduce pain, inflammation and fever.
