Back pain with radiation to the leg

Hernia

A herniated disc occurs when the soft tissue of the intervertebral disc bulges due to a weakness in the surrounding cartilage ring. This can pinch nerves, causing pain, numbness and tingling in the back, neck, arms or legs, depending on the location of the herniated disc.

Canal stenosis

Canal stenosis is a condition in which the spinal canal becomes narrowed, leading to compression of the spinal cord and/or nerve roots. Common symptoms of canal stenosis include pain, numbness, weakness and decreased function in the areas innervated by the affected nerves.

What treatments does GOED Medical Center offer for back pain with radiation to the leg?

Transforaminal injection

To treat a herniated disc or canal stenosis, transforaminal injection is sometimes used at GOED Medical Center. This is a treatment in which medication is injected directly at the nerve root, through the openings between the vertebrae. This is an effective method to reduce inflammation and pain caused by a herniated disc or canal stenosis.

Epidural injection

An epidural injection is a treatment in which anti-inflammatory medication is injected into the space around the spinal cord to reduce inflammation and pain. The difference between this and a transforaminal injection is that with an epidural injection the medication is spread evenly around the spinal cord, whereas with a transforaminal injection the medication is specifically targeted to a specific nerve root through the openings between the vertebrae.

Pulsed RF treatment

Pulsed-RF stands for Pulsed Radiofrequency Denervation. During a Pulsed-RF treatment at GOED Medical Center, one or more nerves that provide pain conduction are treated in the area where the pain is located. Pulsed-RF treatment can provide relief from a herniated disc or canal stenosis.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatment.

An RPR (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatment is a procedure in which we apply body's own plasma with a high dose of platelets, to naturally stimulate nerve repair. This treatment falls under regenerative medicine.

Back pain without radiation in the leg

SI joint pain

SI joint pain is a condition caused by irritation, inflammation or instability of the "sacroiliac joint. This joint is located between the sacrum (sacrum) and the pelvis (ilium). SIJ pain usually manifests in the lower back, buttock region and/or pelvic area and can be aggravated by activities such as walking, standing, sitting or twisting.

Fascet osteoarthritis

Fascet osteoarthritis is a condition in which the joints between adjacent vertebrae in the spine degenerate. Research shows that inflammatory processes in the joint play an important role in the development of osteoarthritis. This can lead to pain, stiffness and reduced mobility in the back. Typical symptoms include pain that worsens when bending, stretching or twisting the back.

Disc disease

Between the vertebrae in our back, are the discs (intervertebral discs. With disc disease, the intervertebral disc is damaged or inflamed. This can lead to symptoms such as back pain, numbness, tingling and reduced mobility.

What treatments does GOED Medical Center offer for back pain symptoms without leg radiation?

Trial treatment

In some cases, we recommend trial treatment with local anesthesia of the SI joint and/or facet joint first. If the trial anesthesia works well for a short period of time, this is a good indication that we can treat with PRP.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatment.

For Si joint pain or fascet osteoarthritis, PRP may be an apt treatment. PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. In this treatment, we introduce the body's own plasma with a high dose of platelets, in order to stimulate the recovery of naturally
