Carpal tunnel syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a painful condition in which the median nerve, a nerve that runs through the wrist, becomes pinched by a narrowed space: the carpal tunnel. Factors such as repetitive movements or swelling can increase pressure on the nerve and cause pain and discomfort.

What symptoms do I experience with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms can be experienced as very painful. This condition causes symptoms such as pain, tingling, numbness and weakness in the hand and fingers.

What treatments does GOED Medical Center offer for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome symptoms?

Quervain condition

Quervain's disease, also known as tendovaginitis stenosans, is a condition in which the tendons at the base of the thumb become inflamed. Typical movements such as grasping, pinching or twisting the wrist can aggravate the pain.

What symptoms do I experience with Quervain?

When you experience hand and wrist pain related to Quervain, you may experience pain, swelling and difficulty moving the thumb and wrist. This pain may radiate to the thumb and forearm in some cases. It may be difficult to move the thumb and wrist, especially when making pinching or grasping movements.

What treatments does GOED Medical Center offer for Quervain symptoms?

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatment.

Is corticosteroid treatment not working? Then we can use PRP. PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is plasma from your own body with an increased number of growth factors, which we extract from your blood. This plasma promotes recovery in a natural way. PRP treatment is an effective procedure in treating the Quervain symptoms.

Corticosteroid treatment

If PRP has not achieved the desired results, then treatment with corticosteroids is an option. This is the stress hormone naturally produced in our adrenal glands and has anti-inflammatory effects. Have you already had this treatment for your symptoms? If so, the doctor may advise against this treatment because it has adverse effects on the tissue.

Thumb osteoarthritis

Thumb osteoarthritis or CMC 1 osteoarthritis, also known as osteoarthritis of the carpometacarpal (CMC) joint of the thumb, is a form of osteoarthritis that affects the joint where the wrist and thumb meet. It is caused by the reduction of the quality of cartilage in the thumb, a natural result of the aging process. As joints age, our cartilage deteriorates.

What symptoms do I experience with thumb osteoarthritis?

Thumb osteoarthritis symptoms can be painful. Other common complaints with thumb osteoarthritis include stiffness in the thumb joint, especially when using the hand, swelling and tenderness around the base joint of the thumb, difficulty grasping and holding objects, the sensation of creaking or grinding noises when moving the thumb and decreased mobility and strength in the thumb and hand.

What treatments does GOED Medical Center offer for thumb osteoarthritis?

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatment (for fluid in the joint)

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is plasma from one's own blood with an increased number of growth factors. PRP treatment can effectively help reduce osteoarthritis symptoms. Depending on the severity of osteoarthritis symptoms, the doctor can assess whether this treatment will achieve the desired effect for you.

Hyaluronic acid treatment (when there is no fluid in the joint)

Hyaluronic acid is like our natural lubricant for joints, helping to absorb shock. As joints age, the amount of fluid decreases. Adding extra hyaluronic acid in a joint with osteoarthritis will thicken the joint fluid again. This treatment is only possible if there is no fluid in the joint. If there is, a PRP treatment will be applied.
