Calcification in the tendons (Tendinitis calcarea)
What symptoms do I experience with tendonitis?
Tendinitis calcarea, also known as calcific tendinitis or calcification in the tendons, is a condition in which calcium deposits form in a tendon, usually in the shoulder. This condition can cause pain and restriction of movement. This condition often occurs in the Rotator Cuff tendons in the shoulder. Common symptoms include pain (especially at night), stiffness and limited range of motion. The pain can range from mild to very severe.
How does tendon calcification occur?
Tendinitis calcarea or tendon calcification is often a result of aging, overuse of the tendon, or the result of reduced blood supply to the shoulder. A clear link has also been noted between the development of tendon calcification and metabolic diseases such as diabetes or an unhealthy lifestyle.
How do I get rid of it?
Treatment of tendinitis calcarea can be conservative or invasive, depending on the severity of symptoms. Conservative treatments include rest, ice application, painkillers and anti-inflammatories, physical therapy and shock wave therapy. Are these conservative treatments not working? At GOED Medical Center, we also offer alternative treatments.

What can I do myself in terms of prevention and self-care?
Self-care measures such as avoiding activities that cause pain, using heat or cold therapy, and doing stretching exercises can help manage symptoms. It is also important to maintain good posture and use an ergonomic workstation to avoid overloading the involved tendons.
